Up close and personal

A Cheilosia pagana (that’s a hover fly to you and me) Man looked it up … Google Goggles works sometimes :)

Oh looky, looky here :) There is much excitement in the Dory household. I have a new toy, or rather toys :).

Came back down south yesterday and Man and I are spending the rest of our holiday at my house.

My parcels had arrived and one of them was the macro filter set I had ordered.

Now, in my ignorance, I thought they were going to make things a lot bigger.

They don’t appear to do that. What they appear to do is allow you to get the camera much closer to the subject and still focus.

A clothes peg.

How much fun is this?

These are a couple of practice attempts I had yesterday evening when we got home.

I don’t think they are too bad for a first attempt.

There are four filters, a times one, times two, times four and times ten.

If you put them on in the right order, you can use all four. But don’t put the times ten one on first cos the rest won’t fit then :)

Man keeping a close eye on my antics.

Yep, kid in a toyshop time again.

Now if I can can just figure out how to use them properly all will be good :) Practice makes perfect.

The other parcel was my 2013 edition of the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook.

What a useful publication that is.

It has lists of contacts for newspapers, magazines, literary agents etc etc together with what freelance submissions each accepts and how to contact them.

It has a whole section on postcard and greeting card manufacturers that accept freelance submissions. I think this may be the way forward. It is certainly worth a try anyway.

Man set me a challenge. He flicked randomly through the book till I yelled stop and then asked me for a number (I said six). Now I have to submit an article to the magazine that was in sixth position on the page.

Raindrops on a leaf – the focusing isn’t quite right on this one I don’t think.

The publication is called Frieze. It is a highly-specialised modern art publication.

Well this is certainly going to be a challenge. I don’t know much about modern art. I once stood on one of the exhibits in the Pompidou Centre in Paris because I didn’t realise it was an exhibit!

But  I like a challenge :). Let’s see what I can find out about modern art shall we?

So yesterday we transferred from one home (Man’s) to the other (mine).

We stopped off at an English Heritage property called Wrest Park in Bedfordshire. Had never even heard of it before. It was lovely. We were the youngest people there by about 30 years.

We came back because today we were supposed to be going to the Stock, Aitken and Waterman 25th anniversary concert in Hyde Park tonight.

It was going to be cheese central – Steps, Sonia, Rick Astley, Sinita AND Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue.

We’d only been home half an hour when I got a message saying the concert had been cancelled because Hyde Park is waterlogged. Bloody weather!!

Now we are going to have to find something else to entertain us this week.

I am sure we will manage :)
